Boots have four main characteristics, which provide them with a certain style: shaft height, heel, toe and color. The boot-shaft height  determines the category from down to up: ankleboots, half boots, knee high boots, overknees, thigh highs, crotchhighs, chap boots and the rare boot pants.

Note: “Elegant” and “Sexy” are never compatible with “comfortable”.

A rule of thumb with high heels is: the higher, the nicer. A high heel starts at 6-7cm, 10cm are already very sexy. If the heel is higher than 10cm, a woman has to relearn walking, it is difficult, but possible. The maximum height is reached at 12-13cm, depending on the shoe size. Heels in different forms are very depend on the actual fashion, but block and stiletto heel will always be en vogue.

Boot toes come in round, pointed and squared. At the moment round shapes are in fashion. Squared boot toes are not very frequent right now, but that will probably change in the next couple of years. The pointed version developed to a classic form. It is impossible to imagine an evening dress without a shoe or boot with pointed toe.

Boots come in 4 acceptable colors: black, brown, white and red. Other colors are kitschy and exotic. Even red is questionable for a lot of people. White boots can be very elegant with a white winter outfit.  Red is for people who seek and like attention.  Most women just posses black boots. Brown can be a nice change, and goes almost with every outfit. Just be careful when you go out at night. Brown is a color for the day, not for the night.
