Leather

Boots come in all kinds of material: leather, synthetic, stretch, patent, latex, suede leather. Without a doubt leather is the most noble material, even if there are wide ranges of qualities of leather, but we will come to that later. Leather looks classy and has the very best material properties. It is strong, breathable and isolating. Furthermore there is the fantastic smell, that just comes from real leather boots. Against all the advantages there are two disadvantages. Leather boots are always significantly more expensive, even if they are often worth it. Additionally the correct fit of leather boots can be difficult sometimes. Boots made of leather should be very similar to the shape of her leg, if not the boots can be too tight to wear or dangle around their calf. A solution for those problems could be a shoemaker or saddler of your trust. Of course this will cause extra expenses. The bottom line is, that it is worth it to save some money for 1 or 2 months, to get a nice pair of boots, that look gorgeous and fit just perfect. The investment pays off after wearing them the first time.

Synthetic Leather

Artificial leather or synthetic material has advantages and disadvantages towards leather. On the one hand it is far cheaper and is more elastic, therefore it offers more tolerance at the calf width of the wearer. Usually synthetic material does not have the fragrance of leather, but gives off an unpleasant smell of leather. Especially boots from the Far East do have this problem. The boots often do isolate very well and fail their originally purpose: to keep warm legs and feet. Synthetic material often appears very real and it necessary to look twice, to see that they are not real leather. If somebody notices, you can still claim that the boots are vegetarian and that you are wearing them out of ethical reasons.

Stretch

Boots from stretch material are a question of taste and fit. Some women have no other choice, than to wear stretch material, as they have strong calves and thighs. Stretch is –as you can guess by the name- extremely elastic. The question of taste has also a direct connection with the fit. The boots fit very tight on the leg and follow the shape of the leg. Good leather or synthetic leather boots “shape” the leg. They cover flaws and shapelessness and stress the length. Stretch boots on the other side have a sock like character, which is not necessarily bad.

Patent

Patent is just a coating material, therefore pay attention when you buy boots online, if material description just says “patent”. If the under material is synthetic, real leather or stretch material is not clear. Patent is very eye-catching and can appear very classy. However there are a lot of things you can do wrong. You should NEVER combine patent leather with matt leather. A very frequent mistake, that does not become any correcter through repetition. Just combine patent with other shiny materials or with discreet clothing to achieve a good balance.

Latex

Latex boots are very clearly made for wearing at home or at the club. You can consider latex to be a better stretching material. Similar to stretch boots, latex boots fit like a second skin, but they do have a special feature, to shape the leg. Real latex has a strong structure and puts pressure onto the skin. Furthermore latex boots have properties which are loved and hated by different people. They are hard to put on, they do not isolate, but you still sweat. After spraying the obligatory glance spray, the boots feel slick. A lot of people cannot imagine anything better, for others it’s not “their cup of tea”.
